In My Mailbox #33

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

From top to bottom:
Purity by Jackson Pearce -- For Review from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Yes, without the dust jacket Purity is actually white (the dust jacket being blue) and I'm really excited to be able to review it! Admittedly I have a few more reviews to type up before I can get to it, but I'm definitely excited to read it and I can't wait to share my thoughts with you!

A Temptation of Angels by Michelle Zink -- Purchased
It's no great secret that I adore Michelle's writing style--and I loved her Prophecy series. So I'm really, really excited to have finally picked up a copy and this is jumping to the front of my TBR pile because I've actually been dying to get my hands on a copy--as B&N didn't carry it, I went to Mysterious Galaxy (Redondo Beach) to get one.

Starters by Lissa Price -- Purchased
If you follow my blog then you've probably seen my review for Starters go up a while ago and there are two reasons as to why I picked up a finished copy. What are they? I love how shiny the cover is and it happened to be the pick for the YA book group at Mysterious Galaxy last month. Also, no, this isn't that recent of a purchase--I just forgot to add it to my IMM post last time.

Ripper by Stefan Petrucha -- Purchased
And this is the book group pick for the month--which is precisely why I picked up a copy. Admittedly this is probably a book that I wouldn't have picked up on my own, but I sincerely hope that I enjoy it. We'll see though--chances are I won't get around to reading it until closer to the next meeting.
-----

And there you have it! If you're wondering why all of the hardcovers are dust jacket-less, it's because when I read hardcovers, I take them off--and then they stay in my art portfolio that I have which is huge and had no other purpose as I don't draw that often anymore. Why do I take them off? Because I hate it when they get bent or torn.

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week?

In My Mailbox #32

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

Won:
Cloaked by Alex Flinn
I actually won this through a giveaway that Pitch Dark Books was doing on Twitter! I haven't had the time to read it yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to it!

Received for review:
172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad
Received for review from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. I've actually just started reading 172 Hours on the Moon and so far I like it--but I'm only at the beginning, so we'll see how things progress.

Belles by Jen Calonita
Received for review from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. I've actually finished reading Belles a while ago and my review will be going up for it soon--but meanwhile, I'll tell you that I liked it and that there are definitely some Gossip Girl-ish moments in Belles

Bought:
The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg
This is one of--the many--books that I've been meaning to pick up to read and although I haven't gotten around to reading it just yet, I have high hopes for this one!

Not pictured (for review):
Once by Anna Carey
Received for review from HarperCollins and Edelweiss. I really enjoyed Eve and when I was that this was up on Edelweiss, well, I had to request it! I'm definitely looking forward to reading it--but I'm trying to wait until I've finished a few more reviews before I reward myself with it.

Drain You by M. Beth Bloom
Received for review from HarperTeen and Edelweiss. Why hello there, book with zombies in it! I certainly can't wait to dive right on in to Drain You and this will probably be the next book that I read.

Insignia by S.J. Kincaid
Received for review from Katherine Tegen Books and Edelweiss. Maybe it's just me, but this sounds different than your usual dystopian and the main character is a guy--which might not seem like much, but I'm someone who rarely picks up books written from the male perspective--so I'm hoping that I'll really enjoy it!

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard
Received for review from HarperTeen. I've been wanting to request this title even before I knew that it was up on Edelweiss--mainly because yes, I want to read it that badly. This is probably going to be one of those titles that I read in one sitting--or so I hope!

In My Mailbox #29

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

Received for Review:
Of Poseidon by Anna Banks
Struck by Jennifer Bosworth

Not Pictured (e-ARCs)--received via NetGalley:
The Treachery of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long
I had to contain myself when I saw that this went up on NetGalley. Seriously. I've been ridiculously excited about The Treachery of Beautiful Things since I saw it in Penguin's Summer 2012 catalog. Admittedly I sort of ran to my laptop and logged onto NetGalley to request it the day that it went up.

The Wicked and the Just by J. Anderson Coats
I have two words for you: historical fiction. I'm definitely looking forward to reading The Wicked and the Just and I really hope that I like it (being the historical fiction nut that I am).

Unbreak My Heart by Melissa Walker
I'm trying to keep myself from singing Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" right now. Having said that, contemporary fiction! I really should read more contemp. and the plot really sounds interesting.

The Académie by Susanne Dunlap
More historical fiction! Also, a gorgeous cover and it's set at a boarding school.

Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby
Teenage photographer who falls for the guy she's supposed to be getting paparazzi shots of? Sign me up!

Transcendence by C.J. Omololu
Ridiculously excited that I got approved for this on NetGalley. Why? Past lives! I'm really excited to read it.

Burn Mark by Laura Powell
The son of a Chief Prosecutor for the Inquisition and a girl from a family of witches both develop the fae (powers)? Yes please! It's a modern day Inquisition and witches are burned at the stake--I can't wait to see how the two of them react to everything!

Starters by Lissa Price
Admittedly what drew me to Starters was the fact that Random House is seriously promoting it and that, is why I ran off to read the summary... and then requested the book on NetGalley. The premise is definitely interesting and I can't wait to get around to reading it!

A huge thank you to Macmillan, Penguin, Bloomsbury, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and Random House for the books that are in my mailbox this week!

Won:
The Probability of Miracles (ARC) by Wendy Wunder
Thanks to Penguin Teen's Facebook page!

Bought:
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
If you've seen my review of Across the Universe, you know that I really, really loved it--and I happen to really love the paperback cover (though I love the hardcover covers too)

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
I nearly passed the display that they had out early for it and I immediately stopped  to pick up a copy (there were only three left--it must've been really popular). It's been something that I've been looking forward to for quite some time now!

The Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams
While browsing the shelves at my local B&N I did a double take because what was sitting on the shelf? The Alchemy of Forever! I've been dying to read this book and I can't wait to dive in! ETA: I just finished reading it and well, loved it! My review here.

The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder
I ended up buying this after the ARC came in because I wanted a hardcover of it (which, by the way, is this really lovely teal). It was actually surprisingly difficult to find a copy on the Thursday that it was released upon, so I had to wait a bit to pick up a copy.
-----

Also, wishing everyone a happy new year! My resolution for 2012 is definitely to comment and update the blog more often! D: What about yours? Also, what did you get in your mailbox this week?

I went back to Mysterious Galaxy (their Redondo Beach location) today and met Ishita from The Reading Fish thanks to their YA Book Group (the book of the month is Death Watch by Ari Berk). I have a feeling that I'm going to be frequenting Mysterious Galaxy a lot--not that it's that big of a surprise. ;D

Books Bought:

Death Watch by Ari Berk
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

For Review:
Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

In My Mailbox #25

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

It's been a good two weeks for books! Well, most of them were received (and bought) this week, but last week was when I received the goodies that I won from the wonderful Beth Revis during her October giveaway!

Bought:
Crossed by Ally Condie
I loved Matched and knew that I had to pick up a copy of Crossed. I've already finished reading it and I can't wait to see what happens in the third book!

Won:
A Million Suns by Beth Revis
Oh. My. Goodness. Beth Revis strikes again! Even when I think see something coming, she still manages to surprise me! This copy is signed and it came along with a rubber bracelet, water bottle, poster, astronaut ice cream, and LUSH goodies! If you're wondering why the rest of the items aren't in the picture, it's because most of them are being used (or have been eaten in the case of the ice cream).

Received for Review:
Havoc by Jeff Sampson
This came along with Incarnate and when they arrived, I was really surprised! I've actually been meaning to read Vesper and now I have a serious excuse to do so! (Yes, this was an unsolicited review copy.)

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
This is actually the second copy to show up which means... giveaway time! Well, later this week is when the giveaway post will go up for it, but still! I've already read Incarnate and I really loved it. Seriously, but I'm still writing my review for it because sometimes, words fail me.

Partials by Dan Wells
So, you know I've been looking forward to this book. I did a Waiting on Wednesday post for it and everything; so when I saw that bloggers were starting to get copies, I had to ask for a copy to review. Had. To. I haven't started reading it just yet (November is ridiculously busy) but I can't wait until I can make time to read it! Actually, I have a feeling that I'm going to tell myself that I can read one chapter... and then read the entire book. xD

The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff
I was super excited when The Space Between showed up at my doorstep and I actually just finished reading it earlier today. It definitely met my expectations and in another week, you'll most likely see my review go up!

A huge thank you to Razorbill, HarperTeen, and Balzer + Bray for the books!

-----

Also, if you've been wondering why I haven't been posting too often, you can blame it on NaNoWriMo. :P (And on the off chance that you don't know what NaNoWriMo is, it's National Novel Writing Month; in which, you push yourself to get to 50,000 words by the end of the month.) I am determined to win this year--and I'm also behind on my daily word count, but that was bound to happen anyways.

If you're also participating in NaNoWriMo and you'd like to add me to your writing buddy list, you can find my profile here. I'm still mulling over my title, constantly re-writing my synopsis, and trying to shut my inner editor in a closet so that I can write in peace!

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week? :D

In My Mailbox #24

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

No video this week since I'm pretty much busy all weekend attending events pertaining to the funeral of my grandfather. However, it's been an awesome book for weeks!

For Review:
Everneath by Brodi Ashton
The cover for Everneath is so absolutely stunning that I had to read the synopsis immediately; needless to say, I can't wait to start reading it!

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand
I actually just finished reading Hallowed and Cynthia Hand definitely does not disappoint!

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
The idea of there only being a million souls is intriguing and the fact that they're now missing one? Let's just say that I can't wait to find out more about Ana.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
I'm sure by now you know that I love dystopian novels and the summary has me hooked! Admittedly I probably won't understand it completely until I begin reading, but I'm really looking forward to it!

A huge thank you to HarperTeen (and Balzer + Bray) for sending me these books to review!

Bought:
Awake at Dawn by C.C. Hunter
I had to get my hands on a copy of this because I really enjoyed Born at Midnight.

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
I've been avoiding reviews on Lola like the plague because I want to read it on my own and hadn't had the time until recently to run out for a copy. I can't wait to start reading it!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
This is another book that I've been dying to read and after hearing that it's an absolutely insane read, I can't wait to dive in!
-----

And that, is what was in my mailbox this week! If you're wondering what's underneath all of the books, it's my laptop (ie. that which I do all my work on). Also, today I'm officially twenty-two and my blog is officially a year old! I know I haven't done anything for my blogiversary yet, but I definitely intend to by the end of the month! :)

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week?

Alas, no vlog this week; however, I did buy some books! (Also, I'll be knocking out comments on Sunday--I really need to get better about doing those!)

Bought:
All You Desire by Kirsten Miller
It's book two in Kirsten Miller's The Eternal Ones series and yes, I've already finished reading it. To sum up my thoughts? Adam, stop trying to make me think that you aren't the bad guy! You're making me waffle over here!

Ingenue by Jillian Larkin
Second book in the Flappers series and we're now up to four different points of view. Usually, this would annoy the silly out of me, but it actually works rather well in Ingenue--at least, I think so.

Married with Zombies by Jesse Petersen
Yes, I had to get this book so that I could read the other two--which I had received for review from Simon & Schuster UK. Honestly? The second and third books in this series were much better than the first one in my opinion.

In My Mailbox #19

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

Bought:
A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young
I heard so many glowing reviews about A Need So Beautiful that I knew I had to pick up a copy to see what all the fuss was about. You can see my review of A Need So Beautiful here

Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Let me just start by saying that I love the cover and that it is insanely soft. Secondly, I love novels that involve time travel and that Hourglass certainly delivers; Hourglass also definitely serves up the cute boys. ;) You can see my review of Hourglass here

Shadowcry by Jenna Burtenshaw
Shadowcry was a book that I'd only seen mentioned on a few blogs and reviews of Shadowcry seemed even harder to find. After reading the synopsis, I decided that I had to read Shadowcry and I was pleasantly surprised to discover how much I liked it! You can read my review of Shadowcry here

Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey
By now you know that I'm a sucker for historical fiction and that I adore the paranormal genre; put them together and you have Haunting Violet which turned out to be a pretty good read. Have I mentioned that Haunting Violet also has an incredibly gorgeous (and soft) cover? Because it definitely does--and it's appropriate at that! You can read my review of Haunting Violet here.

Blood Red Road by Moira Young
Originally I'd gotten the e-ARC of Blood Red Road because that's how badly I wanted to read it. However, between being on my computer to read it and failing to get past the accent, I decided to wait for its release before actually reading it; as it turns out, this was the correct decision because it was much easier for me to get over the accent when I read the hardcover. You can see my review of Blood Red Road here

Received for Review:
Dark Souls by Paula Morris
A huge thank you to Scholastic Inc. for sending me this book! I've already read it and quite enjoyed it at that. I still need to finish typing up my review on it, but I'm definitely looking forward to sharing my thoughts on Dark Souls with you!

The Sixes by Kate White
It seems like it'll be along the lines of Dominance, which I've quite enjoyed and because of that, I decided to give it a go. A huge thanks to Harper!

The Lantern by Deborah Lawrenson
It's a mystery that takes place in France. Done. Also, I'm in love with the cover. A huge thanks to Harper!

Triangles by Ellen Hopkins
Perhaps not my usual cup of tea, but I'm definitely looking forward to reading this one! Thank you so much Atria!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
And last, but certainly not least, The Night Circus. Ever since I've seen this book mentioned on other blogs in Waiting on Wednesday posts, I knew that I had to read it. Thanks to Shelf Awareness and Doubleday, I managed to get a review copy! This came with a matching bookmark and a sheet with the cast of characters written on it as well. I nearly danced in excitement when this arrived! Actually, I'm currently reading it and I'm about halfway through. So far I'm definitely loving it!

I also got swag from Suzanne Young this week; thank you so much Suzanne!

Lastly, here's a bonus shot of the books that I bought this week without their dust jackets on. ;) A Need So Beautiful is actually not that light in color, it's more of a gold.

And that's what I got in my mailbox this week! Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to do a vlog this week, but I'll definitely have the time next week; at the moment, I've got to run though so I shall see you all on Monday when my crazy weekend comes to an end. I will, however, be checking out your IMM posts during any downtime I get tomorrow.

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week? :D

And that, was what was in my mailbox this week! Debating over doing a vlog for next week's--so we'll see--but well, yeah! So, what was in your mailbox this week? :)

Also, sorry for being so quiet on the blog this week! My laptop finally died on me and I finally got my replacement yesterday--so I'll be playing catch up today and tomorrow.

In My Mailbox #17

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

 From top to bottom:
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
Bought. I had to run out and buy Starcrossed after hearing so many great reviews about it. Happily, I wasn't disappointed at all! I've already finished reading it and hopefully I'll get my review up either late tonight or tomorrow. Also, if you're wondering why my copy is currently "naked" it's because I really did just finish reading it! Am I the only one who thinks that the laurels on the cover look a little like a mustache?

Mistwood by Leah Cypess
Bought. I've been meaning to pick up Mistwood for quite some time and when I went to buy Starcrossed, it came along to keep Starcrossed company. ;D

Possess by Gretchen McNeil
Received for review. Oh. My. Goodness. First off, I've already finished reading Possess and I absolutely loved it; I mean, the main character is half Chinese and the demons were freaking scary! Although it's not pictured above or bellow, it also came with a bookmark and a temporary tattoo! I'm actually terrified to use the temporary tattoo because it's so darn pretty.

Frost by Marianna Baer
Received for review.  Creepy house? Eccentric roommate? Crazy happenings? Yes please! That's actually why I requested it and yes, I recently finished reading it too! Let's just say that I would not want to live in Frost House--I'd be too creeped out!

The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons
Bought. When a copy of The Summer Garden showed up in my mailbox, I had to run out and buy The Bronze Horseman which is the first book in the trilogy. Yes, I intend to read all three before The Summer Garden comes out! Or at the very least, I certainly intend to try, but these books are massive!

Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina Simons
Bought. See my reason for buying The Bronze Horseman

The Summer Garden by Paullina Simons
Received for review. When The Summer Garden arrived on my doorstep, I knew it was the kick in the pants that I needed to read the first two books in the trilogy which I've been meaning to read for a while now.

And last week I received The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab for review; upon receiving it I immediately began reading The Near Witch and well, I loved it! Got my review typed up already and everything. :)

So that's what's in my mailbox this week! A huge thank you to Balzer and Bray, Disney Hyperion, and William Morrow for sending me books! What's in your mailbox this week? :D

In My Mailbox #16

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

For Review:
Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson
A big thanks to Harper for this one! It sounds really good and I can't wait to start reading it--although I'm forcing myself to (wait). They made a Facebook page for it too (facebook.com/beforeigotosleep.us) and they've been releasing little tidbits of the story as they gain fans (they're also giving away copies of Before I Go To Sleep over there from time to time).

The Borgia Betrayal by Sara Poole
Thank you to St. Martin's Griffin too for The Borgia Betrayal (and Reading Group Gold as well). I love historical fiction and can't wait to dive in.

Not Pictured:
All the Things You Are by Courtney Sheinmel
I got this from Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab program and I really like the sound of the storyline--plus I've been on the lookout for contemporary stories lately.

He's So Not Worth It by Kieran Scott
Another book from Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab. I actually just realized that it's the second book in a series (I know, I know, I should pay more attention to these things), but it sounds pretty darn good too--I may have to run out and locate a copy of the first book (or maybe I'll just risk it and read out of order).

Hereafter by Tara Hudson
This is actually the first HarperTeen book that I've been accepted for on NetGalley, so thank you HarperTeen! I'm really looking forward to seeing how the storyline works itself out--considering the fact that the main character is a ghost.

Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnhol
Another book from Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab in my never ending quest to find contemporary romances that I like. I've actually finished reading it and my review will be up on the blog in July.

The Lost Crown by Sarah Miller
The last book I picked up from Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab this month. I love, love, love this particular period of time for the Imperial Russian family. Well, let's just say that as a girl, I watched Anastasia a lot--and did projects on her, etc. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to reading this.

The Wild Rose by Jennifer Donnelly
Thank you Hyperion and NetGalley! I actually own the first two books in this series--and I've read both of them--so I'm really excited to read the third book!

And yes, I got bookmarks--they're signed! Thank you so much to Kiki Hamilton for sending them! They were actually waiting for me when I got home today (our city has an annual Armed Forces Day parade) and I promptly ran off to my room with them.

So there you have it, that's what was in my mailbox this week! Admittedly I still really, really don't like to read on my computer (although I have to for e-ARCs) because I get distracted by everything! I'm not alone, right? I'll start tweeting, bumming around Facebook, and browsing through GoodReads when I know I should be reading. Also, welcome new followers! I'll be doing my best to stop by your blogs later tonight and into tomorrow. Since Armchair BEA is coming up this week for those of us who can't make it out to BEA, you'll get to learn a little more about me as the week progresses. To everyone going to BEA, I'm jealous--but extremely excited for you! I hope you have a blast and I can't wait to see who you met and what you got!

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week? :D

In My Mailbox #15

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

Bought:
Die for Me by Amy Plum
I've been dying to read this! On top of that, from what I've seen so far it's gotten really good reviews from other bloggers--which is why I had to run out and buy it!

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier
Another book I've been looking forward to. Ever since it was mentioned in Shelf Awareness, I've known that I had to pick up a copy. I mean, time travel!

-----

And that's all that was in my mailbox this week--I've been trying to keep myself from going too crazy with book buying since I do have some books that I should be reading before I can let myself go crazy at the bookstore again. For some reason my phone really did not want to take a clear picture of Die for Me, but it's really a gorgeous cover in real life! I'm glad that they changed the cover though, admittedly the initial cover made me think of Phantom of the Opera a bit (Christine on a boat).

Lastly, I've been really quiet on the blog lately, haven't I? I aim to fix that (and get back to commenting more as well as posting)! Really though, I do. Asides from that, I'm just about done reading Mercy by Rebecca Lim and my review for that should be going up tonight--or tomorrow at the latest.

So, what did you get in your mailbox this week? Also, happy reading to everyone--and if you're going to BEA, have a great time!

In My Mailbox #14

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi (The Story Siren) and it allows book lovers to show what they've gotten over the week. It can be books bought, borrowed, received for review, etc.

Bought:
Divergent by Veronica Roth
After hearing so much about Divergent, I've been dying to read it! Needless to say, I ran out on Tuesday and picked up a copy--my review of Divergent can be found here

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
I've been meaning to pick up a copy of The Body Finder for quite some time now and well, since I was at the bookstore I decided to pick up a copy! Admittedly I haven't gotten around to reading it just yet, but I'm certainly looking forward to it!

For Review:
The Soldier's Wife by Margaret Leroy
Technically, you could call this "won" instead of "for review" as I think it was a bit of a drawing for copies of The Soldier's Wife through Shelf Awareness and Hyperion. I'm definitely looking forward to reading it as I love historical fiction and well, I'm trying to keep myself from reading it for now as it isn't due out until July.

Wildefire by Karsten Knight
Ripped into the package containing Wildefire on Monday and had to try not to squee (in which I failed and in doing so, caused my mother to wonder just what had arrived) as I realized what it was. Immediately after that, I tore into it--so to speak--and I now have my review of Wildefire scheduled to go up on my blog the week of its release. Let's just say that I really enjoyed it and that Ashline Wilde is by no means a girl you'd want to bully--or pick a fight with... or leave flammable liquids around.

So, that's what's in my mailbox this week; what's in yours? :D
