Waiting On Wednesday #42

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier

Summary via Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Neryn is alone in the land of Alban, where the oppressive king has ordered anyone with magical strengths captured and brought before him. Eager to hide her own canny skill--a uniquely powerful ability to communicate with the fairy-like Good Folk--Neryn sets out for the legendary Shadowfell, a home and training ground for a secret rebel group determined to overthrow the evil King Keldec.

During her dangerous journey, she receives aid from the Good Folk, who tell her she must pass a series of tests in order to recognize her full potential. She also finds help from a handsome young man, Flint, who rescues her from certain death--but whose motives in doing so remain unclear. Neryn struggles to trust her only allies. They both hint that she alone may be the key to Alban's release from Keldec's rule. Homeless, unsure of who to trust, and trapped in an empire determined to crush her, Neryn must make it to Shadowfell not only to save herself, but to save Alban.

Why am I waiting on Shadowfell? Because it sounds amazing. Seriously, usually covers are what attracts me to a book, but in this case, I'm in love with the synopsis and I cannot wait until it gets released! (I actually need to cut my TBR pile down, but once I do, I definitely plan on requesting it on NetGalley.)

Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier is published by Knopf Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House, and its expected publication date is September 11, 2012.

So, what are you waiting on this week?

  10. The synopsis completely drew me in as well. I love, love, love hero journey (and in this case, it's a heroine, yay!) novels, and this one sounds especially fantastic. I'm not a fan of the cover at all, though, but ya know - minor detail! Thanks for the pick!

Thank you for telling me about this novel, because I may not have picked it up because to be honest, I don't really like the cover (god, cover bias acting up again). Thank you for introducing this for me!
