Sasha wants to know who killed her father and after hearing that Eryx should be able to help, she ends up attending an initiation. However, it's there that she learns that she's an Anabo, a descendant of Eve's daughter, Aurora and as such, a threat to Eryx. What does Eryx do those who are Anabo? He kills them. Luckily, she's saved by Ajax, son of Mephistopheles, who happens to need an Anabo if he wants a shot at Heaven. I mean, it's a bit more complicated than that, but he definitely needs Sasha. Unfortunately, things get tougher for Sasha as her mother is deported and she's forced to move to Colorado to live with her Uncle--and his horrific family. She'll have to deal with another group of Ravens, a psychotic Aunt, and ultimately Eryx as well.

It needs to be said that I thought that the first chapter felt rather rushed. Sasha seemed to accept everything with relative ease, only to lose her memory and then wake up alone in a warehouse. The bulk of the story takes place after Sasha leaves California for Colorado to live with her Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. For the record? Her aunt is absolutely psychotic and I suppose it's only gotten worse since she started following Eryx although her cousin Brett is definitely terrible too. Her uncle Tim isn't exactly a bad guy, but that he hasn't gotten rid of Melanie (Sasha's aunt) yet is beyond me. You've also got Chris, her other cousin, who hides out in his room almost all the time and plays a ton of video games. And then you've got the Mephisto brothers who I really enjoyed as a whole, but for some reason I couldn't really bring myself to be attached to the whole Ajax and Sasha thing and I'll be reading the next book to see if it makes me like them as a couple (or at least, more than I currently do).

I could go into the angel mythology--which I did enjoy--but I think I'll summarize what would've been me rambling. Mephisto are sons of Mephistopheles and as such, bound for Hell unless they can find an Anabo which would help redeem them and set them on the course for Heaven. Anabo are extremely hard to find, the Mephisto need them to be redeemed, Eryx found and killed the last one, and they're almost always instantly liked (unless it's someone that follows Eryx). Eryx is also a son of Mephistopheles, kills Anabo because they can help the Mephisto create more Mephisto, and he plans on taking over Hell. And lastly, a Mephisto Covenant is what happens between an Anabo and a Mephisto.

I really did like The Mephisto Covenant, only not as much as I thought that I would. It just feels like there's something that was missing and I'll definitely be reading the next book to see if I like the series any better. With that said, if you've been thinking about reading The Mephisto Covenant, definitely do so. It's one of those books that I think others might enjoy more than I did.

Overall Rating: ★★★ and a half.
